The DUFF is a coming-of-age story that follows high-school senior Bianca Piper (Mae Whitman), who one day finds out she’s been labeled by her so-called friends as the DUFF – designated ugly fat friend.
Desperate to get rid of the label, Bianca enlists the charming jock Wesley Rush (Robbie Amell) to help her get back at the judgy Madison Morgan (Bella Thorne) and upend the current school hierarchy.
Being a teen is tough, with many people having tales of being insecure and bullied. It’s what makes The DUFF and many more coming-of-age stories relatable.

The Fault in Our Stars (2014)
Hazel Grace Lancaster (Shailene Woodley) should be out enjoying normal teen stuff, but because she’s got cancer she’s depressed. Her mum pressures her to go to a cancer support group where Hazel meets Gus Waters (Ansel Elgort), another similarly affected teen. They both share a love for books, especially An Imperial Affliction by Peter Van Houten. Gus gets an invitation to meet the reclusive author, and he and Hazel journey to Amsterdam to find him.
It’s Kind of a Funny Story (2010)
Stressed and worried about growing up, 16-year-old Craig Gilner (Keir Gilchrist) goes to a mental health clinic. He finds that the youth wing is closed, so must instead spend five days in the adult wing. One of the patients, Bobby (Zach Galifianakis), becomes a mentor to Craig. Meanwhile, Craig is drawn to a fellow teen, Noelle (Emma Roberts), whom he falls for.
