Course Entry Quiz (Online, Blended, Hybrid)

Background Info – Why a Course Entry Quiz

NC Community College System regulations require that students in online and hybrid/blended courses submit an activity between the official course start date and the course census date to be counted for funding purposes. Colleges must provide accurate records that substantiate when each student submitted their first activity in the course.

PROCESS OVERVIEW:

1. Instructors will import the standard Course Entry Quiz directly into their courses in Blackboard.
   • Course Entry Quiz – Ultra Course Entry Quiz- Learn
   • How to Import a Quiz into Ultra How to Import a Quiz into Learn

The Course Entry quiz is a one-attempt graded assignment. The Course Entry Quiz does not count toward the student’s overall grade.Do not override census activity grades (Course Entry quiz), as this will reflect instructor activity instead of student activity.

2. Set the Course Entry Quiz to be the first item students complete in the course.
   • Set to course to Adaptive Release – Ultra, Learn

Students will not have access to other course areas until they have completed the Course Entry Quiz. All courses must contain adaptive release conditions to restrict access to course modules.

3. 10% Report – Ultra, Learn

Courses & Enrollments

Courses, enrollments and user data are integrated directly into Blackboard from Datatel. The Blackboard integration tool, creates all curriculum courses in Blackboard. Course enrollment information listed in Datatel is mirrored in Blackboard.

Faculty must be listed as an instructor for a course in Datatel to be listed as the course’s instructor in Blackboard. Instructor names entered in Datatel are automatically assigned to course sites in Blackboard. Datatel needs to list all instructors.

Students are enrolled into the correct course sections based on their registration. If a student drops, changes or adds a course, Blackboard course enrollment is updated automatically the next time integration runs. Students dropping a course after the start date are disabled in the Blackboard course. The student’s id is grayed out in the course, but still visible to the instructor.

The integration tool runs daily and automatically updates courses, user and enrollment information in Blackboard from the Datatel records.

How Do I Log into Blackboard

• There are multiple ways to get to Blackboard. The easiest is to goFTCC’s website. Go to the bottom of any FTCC webpage; click the Blackboard link in the Resources list.

Known Issues

Blackboard LTI Fix Guide

There is a known problem causing Error Messages with some LTI tools in Blackboard. Follow these steps for resolution:

1. From Course Management area select Customization
2. Select Tool Availability
3. Scroll down and Select All the Boxes associated with LTI tools:
   • Basic LTI Tool
   • Basic LTI Tool Content Item (Do not add to content menu)
   • Basic LTI Tools
   • LTI
   • EQUELLA LTI Integration

4. Select Submit
